Land-based salmon farm First Water has hired Arnþór Gústavsson to a new position within the company. He goes from serving as quality manager to leading the company’s freshwater breeding facility.
A press release states that Arnþór holds an MS degree in aquaculture biology from the University of Bergen and a BS degree in aquaculture and fisheries science from the University of Akureyri. He has also completed postgraduate studies in aquaculture from Hólar University.
“Arnþór began his career at land-based aquafarm Silfurstjarnan in Öxarfjörður in 2000. After continued studies, research and teaching at Hólar University, Arnþór returned to the industry, to participate in the development of Arctic Fish in the Westfjords, among other projects,” the press release reads.
It is further stated that First Water owns and operates a hatchery at Öxnalækur in Ölfus region, which is responsible for all of the company’s smolts. The company’s rapid expansion requires increased productivity, which will be met with the construction of a new hatchery. It is stated that Arnþór is joining a powerful team responsible for the current operations and construction of the new high-tech hatchery in Þorlákshöfn.
