Land-based salmon farm First Water has hired Ómar Grétarsson as director of the company’s sales and marketing. Ómar holds a BS degree in food science from the University of Iceland and an MBA degree from Reykjavík University.
He has extensive experience when it comes to salmon farming. Ómar’s career in the salmon farming industry goes back to 2013 when he assumed the position of sales director at Fjarðarlax. After the merger of Fjarðarlax and Arnarlax under the latter’s name in 2016, Ómar continued to serve as the company’s sales director until he joined First Water this year.
“I am very pleased to have Ómar on board as he is experienced in the field of salmon farming and such people are hard to come by in this country. Ómar is entering the playing field at exactly the right time to support the company’s expansion—at First Water, we’re aiming high. Ómar understands for what we stand, and I am certain that he will leave a positive mark on the company,” comments Eggert Þór Kristófersson, CEO of First Water.
First Water’s salmon farming facility is located in Þorlákshöfn. The area’s development is in six phases and the project’s estimated completion is in 2029. The company plans to produce around 1,500 tons of salmon by the end of the year. Around 200 people were employed during the summer.
“I’m excited to start my new job and I hope that my passion and experience in sales and marketing of Icelandic salmon will prove useful. I also consider this to be a great opportunity, to learn more and grow with First Water’s ambitious operations,” states Ómar.
